I am... - Physical Studio

For this sessions I had to come up with a phase/ sentence that began with ‘I am’. The sentence could 16 characters or less as it had to fit into a 4 by 4 grid.

I first started to write down phase that came to mind I first found this quite difficult and stared to state how I felt at the time, I then looked up my star sign and characteristics this gave me a few more to chose from.

The phrases I came up with:

I am Small
I am Lost
I am Stuck
I am Thinking
I am Not here
I am Human
I am a Libra
I am Peaceful
I am Unreliable
I am Hospitable
I am Vain
I am Diplomatic
I am Indecisive
I am Graceful
I am Idealistic

At this point I had enough to chose from but could not chose, so I picked ‘I am Indecisive’ but I add the word ‘Not’ as there then would be 16 characters would fit perfectly in to the grid. The full phase would read ‘I am not indecisive’.

Once the phrase was chosen I started to generate some ideas of what I wanted the typography style to be.  I went gravitated to two different styles, but experimented with quite a few.

These are the experimental stage were I am trying to find the best way to produce the typography. As I really liked the curved capitals as well as the joined up harsh line ones the best i brought them forward and added them to the grid.

These are the preferred front. I prefer the 2nd one as it flows well with at the same time holding a firm strong position

Experimenting Further

I then took the one previously shown and experiment around combining them both. I tore them both in to equal sections and placed them in the order of which they originally belonged but mixing them together. This lead to a distorted effect as it became harder to understand the letter but I believe it gives a nice effect.
