Initial Ideas

To make opera appeal to 20-30 years olds as a lot think of it as being for old people, and that it's: posh stuffy not in English, historic and dry, as well as it being perceived as expensive.
With that being said opera has so many themes such as love, loss, death, passion, joy and humour this is an area I wanted to focus on. To show these emotions I thought of creating a character for each theme. The character would have distinctive features so it would recognisable in representing one of the themes. For example the death would incorporate a grim reaper or a skull of some kind, symbols commonly associated with death. The illustrations of two character, that I have drawn using illustrator, are there to represent the love theme. This is shows the theme of love by using pinks, and reds as well as using a love heart neck line.

This idea did not fit the brief popularly and did not have any direction in making the opera more appealing to 20-30 year olds. This idea only showed off the the themes of opera it was not tackling the main element of the brief and was not take any further. I did like this idea even though it lacked direction, I did not take this any further.
